Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea)

Tall Egret, seems relatively dark. It breeds in colonies in reedbeds, wintering in tropical Africa. Jerky flight with kinked wing. The reddish-brown head is smaller than that of the gray heron, the neck has striking black stripes.
