Mandarin duck (Aix galericulata)

The Mandarin duck is one of the most beautiful species of ducks. The male is colored lush in breeding plumage and has greatly extended feathers on head and cheek. Its plumage from May to September is similar to the light gray-brown colored plumage of the female. Mandarin ducks inhabit tree-lined lakes, ponds and rivers, their nests they build in holes in trees.
